RESEARCH ON SET DESIGN

This image was found on the internet with an unknown creator. It is an example of using real plants to create a tropical set. It is seen that big pots of plants were being placed around the screen and some small ones were put on the tables to make each and everything in the room decorated with some elements of a tropical forest. This could be put into consideration for our screening. We could each bring in some real pants or leave to decorate the studio and hang on walls or place on the tables to create the rainforest atmosphere that we wanted. Of course, it would not be possible to bring in big pots of plants, but using some small greeneries like leaves picked from the streets would be really useful to create the atmosphere. With the tropical atmosphere created while the movie was played, audience could easily get into the mood and could have a realistic experience on the screening day.

Designer: Adi Goodrich from California
Adi used papers and cut them into forms of trees and hand painted the leaves to decorate the scene. The colours used was very vibrant and bright that it created not only a tropical atmosphere, but also a playful and joyful aesthetic. Using paper would be easier for us as we might not bring in as much real plants for decorating the whole studio. We could each cut out some tropical leaves and flowers and paint them to replace the real plants. However, it might be a wastage of paper and might not be eco friendly. Therefore, we might use real plants instead.
