DRAW AND PASS
DRAW AND PASS
We were asked to follow steps and create our own posters which had to be related to the film “Burden of Dreams”. Each of us were asked to create lines, diagonals, holes and marks on a sheet of paper and then pass it to the left. We had to draw on each sheet of paper and pass, draw and pass and we did it for around 5 rounds. Everything that we drew had to be related to the movie and that each mark we made had to have a meaning behind which is linking to the film.
Although the outcome did not look visually pleasant, we realized that they can actually become the base of the posters that we will be doing for the film. As each of the elements from the sheets are related to the film, they can definitely be placed onto the posters that we will be making for the film. They can create different textures for the posters and somehow create a raw aesthetic.
RANDOM COLLAGES
We are then asked to create collages out of the printed images from film. We had to cut them up and put them together with a meaning behind. I did these 2 ideas of picture breaking down and deteriorating. It shows the failures in the film that everything is breaking down into pieces and did not work out the way they are expected to.
The one on the right turned out to match with the other one my groupmate did. They created a contrasting effect that one is going down and the other one is going up when it is flipped upside down. Both of them look like they are deteriorating and breaking down. However, when one is placed differently, they can actually create something new. This reflects that sometimes, things may not seem to work well, however, when we look at them in a different perspective or combine them, they can become a new idea. This goes align with the idea of the movie of having everything so hard to make and build, however, the whole crew worked together, tried out different methods, and they made it at last.
After discussing on how we can put our collages together, we ended the day with a plan. We summarised the ideas and work that we are going to do for the screening and distributed the work among each of us.
We have also came up with the screening idea:
There will be in total of 3 screens playing at the same time. One will be the actual film. Another two will be a livestream of the audience watching the film. The last one will be us filming the audience watching the film. So there will be in total of three different perspectives. The "filming us filming others" idea goes align with the film of filming the crew producing the film.

We scanned the collages onto the computer and shared them among ourselves using google drive. We then made posters out of them.

POSTERS
We made different versions of similar posters and we all agreed that this one is the best as the elements went well with each other and it has the "deteriorating into something new" idea in it.
We then tried to print the design on coloured papers and they worked out really well. We then decided to use coloured or neon papers for the poster. We will be doing 8 A3s which form one large A0 poster. We examined the spacing with random printings that we did and found that if we place the A3s tightly together, it will not look nice. Therefore, we are going to place them separately with some spacings in between each one of them to make them look less cramped.
We then realised that we are only producing posters in size of A3. Therefore, we decided to enlarge the A3 poster in scale. We used divided the design into 9 parts and formed a large one in scale of A0.
We then experimented with the arrangements of the 8 A3 papers. As the film is unconventional, we thought that it would be cool if we make the poster itself unconventional like the film. Therefore, we played around with the positions of each A3 posters.
*random idea: make the poster into a puzzle so that people can rearrange the 8 parts and place them in a way that they like?*
Also , we came up with the idea of folding paper boats out of the posters. We thought of a few ideas in making use of paper boats:
1. having the audiences to grab one of the posters on the walls and fold their own boats.
2. we give out paper boats to the audience and have them wearing them as hats to pretend the natives in the film.
3. using the paper boats as entry tickets or invitations.

I randomly came up with this idea of unfolding a paper boat and tracing the foldings to create a grid system. This could be the base of the posters and the lines can act as the hang lines and stack lines.
POSTER IDEAS
We came up with a new idea of using 8 A3 papers to demonstrate on how to fold a paper boat. We split the process of folding a paper boat into 8 steps. We then played around with the spacings and how we are going to place the 8 posters.
We realised that it may not be necessary to put up the actual boat.
We tried to combine the 8 together to make it as one large irregular poster.

We thought that it would be cool to make an A0 boat. Therefore, Me and Emily taped 8 A3 sheets together and started to fold the A0 boat. I then animated the process into a GIF for displaying in the screening and for the Instagram account to document the process of development.
Tia came up with the idea of making a GIF of having the A0 boat "floating" on the floor and then unfolding onto the wall. I then moved the boat step by step and Tia photographed them. With all the photos we have of the boat floating on the floor, I animated the photos and made a floating boat GIF to document the process and the idea development.
